When you hire a contractor to work on your house, you aren’t just paying for shingles, siding, or a fresh coat of paint. You are investing in the team of people responsible for keeping your project moving smoothly from start to finish.
On a recent live podcast of “Resurrection with Greg,” Greg Dennis, owner of Dennis Home Improvement, took a break from the field to give viewers an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at their office on Belt Line in Columbia, SC. In a special “wing-it” episode, Greg introduced the incredible team of women who serve as the heartbeat and backbone of the entire operation.
If you’ve ever called the office, requested an estimate, or scrolled through one of their project videos, these are the dedicated professionals making the magic happen behind the camera.
1. Jennifer: The Payroll and Paperwork Powerhouse
First up is Jennifer, who Greg affectionately considers a sister, having grown up together. Jennifer handles the essential, everyday administrative duties that keep the business’s financial gears turning, including payroll, audits, contracts, and billing.
- The Pen-and-Paper Specialist: Having managed office paperwork since she was 22 years old, Jennifer is an absolute expert at what she does, though Greg jokes that they are still trying to transition her fully into “computer mode”. She remains fiercely loyal to her notebooks, folders, and extensive pen collection.
- A True Team Player: The team loves to playfully tease Jennifer by rearranging her desk space just for fun office talk, but she always takes it in stride because it keeps the workspace dynamic and collaborative.
2. Tonua: Greg’s Strategic Right Hand
Tonua joined the Dennis Home Improvement family in June of 2022 and happens to be childhood best friends with Jennifer. Sharing a cozy, efficient 10×10 back-office space with Greg, Tonua acts as his primary assistant, managing his personal estimates, handling city and county permits, and navigating complex insurance paperwork.
Greg relies heavily on Tonua to keep things streamlined: “I have a computer that I don’t know how to work, so I just look at her and say, ‘Tonua, can you look this up?’ And she does it,” Greg admitted with a laugh. Beyond tech support, Tonua handles the “heavy lifting” behind the scenes, processing legal documents, managing collections, and interacting with insurance companies to protect the business and its clients.
3. Tori: The Scheduling and Social Media Queen
Tori is Tonua’s daughter, bringing a vibrant, multi-generational energy to the office. Tori handles a massive slice of the daily logistics, keeping the field crews busy and organized. Her responsibilities include:
- Scheduling and rearranging roof project timelines.
- Invoicing and collecting deposit fees.
- Managing the company’s entire digital footprint, from crafting short-form TikToks and Facebook reels to running their Pinterest page.
For Tori, the joy comes from seeing the physical transformations of their hard work. “What I actually like is you can see the process laid out in front of you, and I think that’s cool. As a DIY-er, I think that’s cool,” Tori shared.
Life Inside a 1,000-Square-Foot “Feud”
Operating out of a compact, 1,000-square-foot office with no divided walls can get incredibly chaotic when you pack in Greg, Jennifer, Tonua, Tori, Adam, Bella, and Greg’s dad (Mr. Larry).
Greg compared the lively office atmosphere to a family reality TV show like Orange County Choppers. There is plenty of lighthearted bickering, competitive banter, and fast-paced energy, but at the end of the day, it is built on a foundation of genuine love and mutual respect.
“When you’re working in tight quarters, you’ve got to love the people you work with,” Greg said. “Without all that, I’d be lost without you guys.”
A Quick Office Tour: Where the Magic Happens
To wrap up the broadcast, Tori took the camera on a quick walkabout to showcase their organized, high-energy workspace:
- The Project Boards: The office features dedicated tracking boards for ongoing home remodeling and roofing projects. The team is actively looking to completely fill these boards up with upcoming roof replacements, window installations, siding projects, and door upgrades.
- The Shingle Sample Rack: A specialized display rack where clients can look through shingle colors and material styles in person to perfectly match their home aesthetic.
- Mr. Larry’s Office: The neatest room in the building, managed by Greg’s dad (Pops). Covered in travel photos and souvenirs, this is the command center where small roof repairs and maintenance inquiries are carefully reviewed and resolved.
